An alternative to membranes is a tank liner as seen in this photo, this system is used when abnormal movement is expected for the walls and floor.
The liner is placed to the ceiling of the tank and an overflow is placed approx 500mm from the ceiling. This system is very durable and hard wearing due to the fact that it is 1 piece.
The condition of the walls does not matter as this bypasses any need to rectify existing holes or cracks.
